In line with his administration’s policy thrust to foster grassroots economic development, the Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Council, Hon. (Pastor) Jude Chukwunwike, has commenced the comprehensive reconstruction and upgrade of Eke Market, Ubulu-Uku, one of the largest commercial hubs in the council.
The project, which begins with the construction of 100 open market stalls, is part of the administration’s broader agenda to strengthen local commerce, improve trading conditions, and create sustainable economic opportunities for residents.
The market renewal initiative goes beyond the construction of new stalls. It features the construction of a perimeter fence, repair of collapsed slabs, construction of 10 modern toilet facilities, complete renovation of the Gari Hall, and the rehabilitation of a block of 40 shops.
Additionally, the project will see the renovation of seven blocks of lock-up stalls comprising 90 shops and the rehabilitation of 32 blocks of open stalls totaling 324 shops, alongside other supporting facilities aimed at improving security, accessibility, sanitation, and overall market functionality.

Eke Market has long served as a vital center of trade and economic activities in Ubulu-Uku and neighboring communities. The ongoing reconstruction is expected to transform the market into a more organized, secure, and business-friendly environment, enabling traders to operate more efficiently while attracting increased commercial activity.
Speaking on the significance of the project, stakeholders noted that improved market infrastructure remains critical to rural economic growth, job creation, and community development.
They described the intervention as a strategic investment that will enhance the welfare of traders and strengthen the local economy.
The two councillors representing Ubulu-Uku Ward 5 – Hon. Okocha Uchechukwu Gmartins and Hon. Elo Maduemezie Patrick – who is also the Majority Leader of the Aniocha South Legislative Arm, commended the initiative, describing it as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to delivering meaningful development projects across the local government.
Members of the Council Press Crew who inspected the project site expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work already achieved. They noted that the reconstruction project demonstrates the administration’s resolve to pursue infrastructure-driven development that directly impacts the lives of the people.
Upon completion, the upgraded Eke Market is expected to stimulate economic activities, improve trading experiences, increase revenue generation, and further position Ubulu-Uku as a thriving commercial destination within Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The project stands as another testament to the Chukwunwike administration’s commitment to sustainable development, improved public infrastructure, and inclusive economic growth.
