It was a day of relief for indigenes of Gbaraintoru Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State as Rotary District 9141 delivered free medical services, food and clothing to hundreds of residents.
The outreach, under Rotary’s Food, Medicine and Clothing, FMC, program, drew vulnerable men, women, youths and children to the community hall for medical checks, diagnosis, drugs, food items and clothing.
Speaking with newsmen, Immediate Past District Governor of Rotary District 9141, Chinedu Ikegwuani, said the initiative targets over 300 vulnerable residents and is part of the district’s drive to support rural communities across Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
He explained that the project aligns with Rotary International’s mission of service and changing lives.
“Rotary’s philosophy is to do good, to change lives. To reach out to as many people as possible, in any way we can. Considering the situation in the country, we thought of something that can reach out to the less privileged, so we chose this project,” Ikegwuani said.
Rotarian, Nsikat Ntia,a Medical Doctor who coordinated the medical aspect, said beneficiaries of all ages received check-ups and treatment.
He added that the clothing distributed were gently used items donated by households, cleaned and packaged for distribution.
Assistant Governor of Rotary District 9141, Ifeoma Wabara, said giving back to society remains central to Rotary’s values.
“Witnessing the joy and gratitude of recipients receiving food, medical aid, and clothing brings fulfillment to the volunteers involved,” she stated.
Some beneficiaries, including Queen Shadrack and Ebiowei Samuel, thanked Rotary for the gesture and called on government to partner more with organizations like Rotary to address challenges facing rural communities.The medical services, food and clothing to hundreds of residents is part of activities to mark the installation of the 10th District Governor, Rotarian Anthony Olikagu which is scheduled to hold 25th July,2026
