High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has called for calm amid ongoing protests by women and youths occupying oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri river areas over the Warri Federal Constituency ward delineation exercise.
In a press statement issued Tuesday, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited said the mass action, which began on June 8, 2026, must not be allowed to degenerate into violence.
Tompolo, who joined other well-meaning Nigerians in seeking a peaceful resolution, noted that the Ijaw nation has historically been known for its peaceful ways.
“The current political situation arising from the failure of INEC to complete the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency and mass action must not be allowed to be hijacked or to degenerate into violence of any sort,” he said.
He called for calm irrespective of the situation and urged community leaders to meet immediately to devise a way forward.
“I am calling for a meeting of community leaders to meet immediately to enable us devise a way forward. We must all join hands in seeking a peaceful resolution to this impasse,” the statement read.
Tompolo charged the Independent National Electoral Commission to “do the right thing and restore the peace in Warri and environs.”
He appealed to the people of Warri, whether Ijaw, Itsekiri or Urhobo, to remain calm and wait patiently for INEC to conclude the delineation exercise.
The protests followed tensions linked to delays in the ward and unit delineation process in the Warri Federal Constituency.
