The apex socio- cultural body in Uvwie Kingdom, Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU)has invested an illustrious son of the kingdom , Mr. Sonny Akporokiamo Ekedayen as Chairman of the 19th edition of Uvwie Day billed to hold on 26th December, 2026 .
In his speech , the President General of UGIU Worldwide, High Chief Abovi Hope Erute praised Mr Ekedayen who is the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Delta State for his simplicity and humility.
On behalf of the union Erute also expressed appreciation to Mr Ekedayen for accepting to be the chairman of the 2026 Day Celebration.
He explained that the acceptance of being chairman of an Uvwie Day is always done with an investiture on the would be chairman of the annual event.
Erute hailed Governor Oborevwori for appointing a credible Uvwie son as a Commissioner for Economic Planning, Delta State.
He also hailed Governor Oborevwori for his laudable achievements in Uvwie Local Government Area in particular and other parts Delta State so far as he assured that Governor Oborevwori will get maximum votes of the Uvwie people in 2027 general elections.
He however pleaded that Mr Ekedayen should invite Governor Oborevwori to this year’s Uvwie Day celebration
Erute further explained that the union is under HRM Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso JP OON Abe 1 the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and that the union is also the symbol of unity of Uvwie people.
Mr Ekedayen in his acceptance speech, thanked the union for appointing him as the chairman of 2026 Uvwie Day celebration, noting that it was an honour for him to be so appointed as chairman of the forthcoming coming Uvwie Day .
The 1st National Vice President of UGIU Chief Roberts Akpojovwo, the 2nd National Vice President Mrs Vera Ifaka were among UGIU officials present at the epoch making occasion.
While the wife of the honorable Commissioner for Economic Planning, Delta State, Mrs Madonna Ekadeyan, the Co-ordinator of Vincent Ekedayen Foundation, Pastor Vincent Ekedayen who is a former aspirant of Uvwie Local Government Council Chairmanship elections, a former All Progressive Congress ( APC) Chairman Uvwie Local Government Area, Wilfred Ileleji , Rtn Patriotic Ighomrore among others accompanied Mr Sonny Akporokiamo Ekedayen in welcoming the UGIU National officials.
High point of the event was the formal investiture of Mr Sonny Ekedayen as Chairman of 2026 Uvwie Day celebration.
Soso Juri Cultural Dance of Uvwie Kingdom entertained at the event as the host Mr Ekedayen , UGIU officials and other guests danced at the occasion
UGIU worldwide had earlier paid a condolence visit to the Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Chief Hon Anthony Onoriode Ofoni who lost his elder brother Mr Sunny Ofoni a retiree of Petroleum Training Institute ( PTI)Effurun
In his brief speech, the National President General of UGIU, High Chief Abovi Hope Erute noted that the demise of the elder brother of Uvwie Local Government Council boss was not only painful to the Ofonis but also to Uvwie people.
He however prayed God to grant the family of Ofoni the fortitude to bear the loss of their illustrious son .
Ofoni in his response, thanked the National officials of UGIU for the visit.
