The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Council, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering and grooming youths for responsible leadership, innovation and sustainable development.
Chukwunwike stated this in a message conveyed by his spokesman, Jonathan Oyem, to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day, themed “Youth and the Future of Sustainable Development.”
The Chairman described youths as indispensable partners in building a prosperous and sustainable future for Aniocha South, Delta State and Nigeria, stressing that youth development must go beyond temporary empowerment to include sustained investment in education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, mentorship, civic participation and leadership development.
He urged young people to recognise themselves not merely as leaders of tomorrow, but as important stakeholders in the development of today.
“If we desire sustainable development tomorrow, we must deliberately invest in the capacity, character and competence of our youths today. Leadership is not merely about occupying positions; but essentially entails developing problem solving grit and inspire others through character, competence, creativity and courage to confront challenges.
The Council Chairman urged youths to explore opportunities in technology, agriculture, entrepreneurship, creative industries and other productive sectors, challenging them to turn their talents and ideas into solutions that positively impact society.
Chukwunwike also used the occasion to counsel youths to approach the 2027 election cycle with maturity, responsibility and patriotism, urging them to participate actively in the democratic process while rejecting political violence, thuggery, hate speech, misinformation and divisive rhetoric.
He emphasised that political differences are natural in a democracy, but should never become a justification for violence or hatred.
“As we approach another election cycle, I urge our youths to play their part maturely and responsibly. Support your preferred candidates, express your opinions and defend your convictions, but do so with respect, discipline and a commitment to peace. Politics must never destroy the future we are all preparing to build.”
Pastor chukwunwike commended the youths of Aniocha South for their resilience, creativity and contributions to community development, assuring them that his administration would continue to support initiatives that expand opportunities and prepare them for greater responsibilities.
He also acknowledged the youth-focused initiatives of the Delta State Government under the MORE Agenda of the governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, noting that meaningful youth inclusion remains essential to the sustainable development of the State.
Chukwunwike called on youths to prioritise character, competence, integrity and service, stressing that the quality of tomorrow’s leadership will largely depend on the values young people cultivate today.
He assured them that his administration would continue to regard youths not merely as beneficiaries of government programmes, but as partners in governance, development and the building of a peaceful and sustainable future.
