Residents of Egbo-Uhurie Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State have sent Save Our Souls, SOS message to Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa over the alleged invasion of the community by Police officers of the Otu-Jeremi Division.
Some of the residents alleged that Egbo-Uhurie Community has become a ghost town as many persons have fled the community following arrest of some residents and alleged destruction of property by the Police.
They alleged that there was a clash between some Police men and some residents of the Community following alleged molestation of the Vice President of Egbo-Uhurie by the Officers for not giving them #100 at a checkpoint, on Monday.
The residents further alleged that some of them prevented the Police men from taking their community leader to the Police station at Otu-Jeremi.
They further alleged that the Police men who left later mobilized to attack the community that same Monday.
The residents also alleged that when the people of Egbo-Uhurie Community thought the situation had calmed down, men of the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday afternoon invaded and attacked the community, destroying the town hall, business ventures, cars and Keke, leaving many residents running for their lives.
During the invasion, the policemen allegedly arrested and whisked away many persons, including the aged and under-aged.
The residents of Egbo-Uhurie Community noted that the people of the community are living under fear of another invasion by the Police.
They appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene in order to release those taken away by the Police and restore normalcy to the community.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe was unsuccessful.
