Urhobo Progressive Union, Northern California (UPUNC), has Awarded Scholarship to Six undergraduates of the Delta State University Abraka ,Ethiope East local Government area of Delta state .
Presenting the Scholarships to the Beneficiaries, the President, Urhobo Progressive Union, Northern California (UPUNC), and Chairperson, Urhobo Progress Union, America (UPUA), Board of Trustees, Dr. Enojare Tina Uadiale, stated that recipients of the scholarships have demonstrated excellence not only academically but through their involvement in extracurricular activities
Dr. Enojare Tina Uadiale, revealed that the six Beneficiaries were selected after a written examination .
Dr Enojare Tina Uadiale who was represented by the Chairman of the Delsu Scholarship Award Committee, Chief Emuesiri Gborogen said the scholarship was offered to support Urhobo undergraduates inorder for them to complete their studies without any financial setback .
She encouraged the Beneficiaries to continue to strive for excellence and not give up on their dreams.
Dr Uadiale also advised them not to see the scholarship as financial aid but also as a reminder that they have the ability to make a difference in the world.
Dr Uadiale said they have given scholarships to several Students of Delta state University on multiple occasions since 2012,adding that UPUNC decided to use the scholarship awards to promote the speaking and writing of Urhobo language amongst students in Nigeria and abroad .
President, Urhobo Progressive Union, Northern California, Dr Uadiale said
the Urhobo Progressive Union Of Northern California is a chapter of the Urhobo Progress Union, America, which serves as the umbrella organization for the Urhobo community in North America.
She stated that the group remain committed to charitable events and activities that alleviate the plight of Urhobos across the United States and Nigeria.
She stated that the group had Renovated, and equipped the Maternity ward and Children’s ward of Mariere Hospital in Ughelli and St. Jude Children Hospital in the United States.
Dr Uadiale said in 2021 UPUNC donated multiple sets of equipment and hospital supplies worth over 5 million Naira, to the Sapele General Hospital.
Earlier the Vice chancellor of Delta State University Abraka Dr Andy Egwunyenga while commending the UPUNC for the scholarship to the 6 undergraduates of the institute noted that some students of the institute have dropped out of the school as they can no longer afford to pay their tution fee.
The vice chancellor represented by the Deputy Vice chancellor Prof Rosemary Okoh said the institution has prepared a dedicated account through which UPU Northern California can pay the tution fees of the beneficiaries seamlessly .
Others who spoke during the Scholarship award ceremony included the Beneficiaries and the National President of Urhobo students Mr Edmond Adabroke.
They commended UPU Northern California for provision of the scholarships .
The 6 scholarship beneficiaries are
Agamugoro Elohor – Animal Science , Akpomedaye Otuvwede – Urhobo Language Studies ,Obebeduo Charity – Agric Economics, Ogheneyenrhovwo Ubogu – School of Medicine ,
Halleluyah Usioroghene – Agric Economics and Bilotu Elohor – School of Medicine.
