The facilitator of teaching and learning of Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language in Uvwie Kingdom , Chief Sony Daboner has appreciated and applauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over his approval for the teaching of Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language in primary and secondary schools in Uvwie Local Government Area.
Daboner who bears the chieftaincy title of ‘ Atete of Uvwie Kingdom made the appreciation and commendation in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent at his Enerhen residence , Uvwie Local Government Area last weekend.
While disclosing that governor Okowa has graciously approved the teaching of the dialect in primary and secondary schools in the local government area, he described the gesture as a memorable parting gift of Governor Okowa, to the Uvwie people.
Daboner also stated that serious efforts were put in place to implement Governor Okowa ‘ s approval .
To this end , he disclosed that ” A four man committee was invited by the Ministry of Education following the Governor’s approval to teach Uvwie in schools in Uvwie Local Government Area .
” They are: Chief Daboner, A. S., Mrs. Daboner Ruth, Mrs. Ruth Gborogen, Chief Ejedegba Abraham.
” We have the mandate to develop Uvwie curriculum and syllabus using the Uvwie orthography for the teaching of Uvwie dialect in both primary and secondary schools in Uvwie Local Government Area.
“There is a deadline of three weeks for the submission of our finished work. ” Considering the enormous work and the time frame, we considered it necessary to bring in other hands to achieve this laudable work as among the other five local government areas invited, Uvwie cannot afford to fail.
“For the record time, the English language curriculum will be posted here for translation to Uvwie dialect using the same template. ” he added.
The respected Uvwie had earlier commended the Commissioner for Secondary , Delta State Mrs Rose Ezewu and her primary school counterpart, Chief ( Hon ) Sunday Onoriode for the roles they played on Governor Okowa ‘ s approval for the teaching of Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language in primary and secondary schools in Uvwie Local Government Area .
