Widows benefiting from the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme across the 25 local government areas of the state have commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the prompt payment of their August 2026 monthly stipends.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation during the scheme’s monthly prayer session held in Udu Local Government Area, describing the financial support as a significant relief amid prevailing economic challenges.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Widows Welfare Scheme and Livelihood Support Unit, Elder Isioma Okonta, praised Oborevwori for prioritising the welfare of widows in the state.

Okonta said the prompt payment of the stipends demonstrated the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of vulnerable residents.

He said, “We appreciate our Governor, my boss, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his uncommon commitment to the welfare of widows.

“His prompt payment of monthly stipends to beneficiaries across the 25 LGAs is a clear demonstration of his readiness to ensure the wellbeing of Deltans across the board.”

According to him, the initiative has provided relief, dignity and renewed hope to thousands of widows, many of whom rely on the monthly stipends to meet basic household needs.

The beneficiaries, in separate remarks at the prayer session, expressed gratitude to the governor for remembering them and sustaining the welfare scheme.

They prayed for wisdom, strength, good health and long life for Oborevwori, while also seeking the continuity of his MORE agenda beyond 2027.

“We are praying for our Governor because His Excellency has remembered us,” one of the beneficiaries said.

The widows also pledged to mobilise their families, friends and associates in support of the continued implementation of the governor’s MORE agenda.
