The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike , has called on residents to use the remaining dry season to desilt drainages, clear bushy paths, and maintain clean surroundings ahead of the rainy season.
Speaking during the March Environmental Cleanup Exercise, the council boss emphasized that “a clean environment is a product of healthy people.”
He further urged traders at the Ogwashi-Uku Market to enhance sanitary conditions and adopt hygiene standards that foster a safe and healthy business environment. According to Chukwunwike, proper hygiene practices are key to promoting public health and sustaining commerce.
The council boss, through the Supervisory Councilor for Environment, Hon. Chika Kelly Edozie, expressed concern over individuals who have turned the busy Kwale-Ughelli junction axis of the motor park into an open defecation site. This practice, he noted, has created foul odours and posed serious hygiene threats to pedestrians and motorists.
Chukwunwike also called on the Association of Tipper and Lorry Drivers Union operating in the area to caution members against illegal parking on federal highways and one-way driving, describing such actions as an “open invitation to avoidable accidents.” He urged collaboration from those who earn a living within the Kwale junction area to ensure compliance with sanitation and traffic safety measures.
According to the council boss, the cleanup exercise is part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to a clean, safe, and healthy Aniocha South, highlighting the importance of community participation in environmental hygiene.
