A member of Advisory and Peace Building Council Delta State, High Chief Abovi Hope Erute has called for the continued unity among the various ethnic groups in Delta State.
Erute who is also the President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union ( UGIU) made the call in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent on Delta State at 35 years in his office along Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Road Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area on Thursday 27th August, 2026 .
He recalled that Deltans right from the days of the defunct Bendel State , used to live as one . ” That spirit should be sustained” he added
Erute had commended the present crop of leadership of Delta State led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the achievements Delta State recorded in recent times as he described them as relative young people who are never tired to work for the development of the state as he reasoned that the achievements they have recorded so far are more than those recorded in the past ” Today, Delta is an enviable state in Nigeria” he asserted.
He however stated that Delta State has a lot to do culturally as he stressed that Deltans should continue to see themselves as one as in the past , saying that this can be achieved through tolerance.
He lauded Governor Oborevwori for his peace initiative and he also commended the Olu of Warri HIs Majesty Atuwatse 111 for his peace initiative shown during his 5th coronation anniversary celebration. ” We need peace to atrack meaningful developments. ” he added.
Erute who remarked that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a link between the past and present, hailed the governor for his policy of integration just as he used the construction of the trans – Ode – Itsekiri link as a case study. ” I think he had the policy of integration in mind when he embarked on that project.
” Deltans , particularly people from that area should applaud and apprecite him for that ” he stated.
When asked to identify challenges confronting Delta State, he identified epileptic supply of electricity as a major challenge. Though he said that this is a universal challenge in Nigeria ” but I think if the way we pursued infrastructural developments in the past few years in the state and apply it to the provision of electricity, this problem will be solved .
” We should focus on provision of electricity . We need energy for industrial development. This will go a long way in solving the problem of unemployment. ” he stated.
Erute also suggested that the agro industry and private sector should be focused upon and that this will provide employment for Deltans.
The highly esteemed Uvwie chief in media chat, rated the night life in Delta Central and the Warri area as zero.
He therefore appealed that the night life of the said areas should be reawaken.
Erute a chieftain of All Progressive Congress ( APC) wrapped up the media chat with a call on Deltans to vote for Governor Oborevwori for a second tenure in order for him to take greater heights.
