Warri South Local Government Chairman Dr. Michael Tidi, has cautioned residents of Warri South Local Government Area Delta state to desist from habits capable of plunging the upland and coastal plains in the council into avoidable flood crisis.
The warning by Dr. Tidi, contained in a statement released Saturday October 15, is coming on the heels of report by Aljazeera that 27 states out of the 36 in Nigeria, has already been ravaged by flood with over 500 deaths and more than a million people reportedly displaced, leaving unquantifiable amount of property destroyed so far.
The Warri South Local Government Chief Executive, who was troubled about the devastation, urged residents of Warri South against disposing refuse on drainages, canals and erecting structures on natural water channels.
He stressed the need for residents, business owners and multi national companies, operating in Warri South Local Government Area, to work towards reducing carbon emissions and stop activities such as oil bunkering, which pollutes the air, saying such avoidable pollution are negatively contributing to climate change.
Dr. Tidi, assured that his administration, will sustain the push to make Warri South Local Government Area, one of the cleanest in the country, with a view to revitalizing its socio – economic activities and attract both indigenous and foreign investors.
