Deputy President of the 9th Senate and Delta Central NDC Senatorial Candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has alleged an attempt on his life after armed men stormed the venue of an NDC campaign meeting in Uvwie, Delta Central, on Thursday morning.
In a statement signed on August 21, 2026, Omo-Agege alleged that over 50 armed men led by Mr. Emmanuel Erube, described as the Disciplinary Committee Chairman of Jakpa, invaded the campaign venue at about 5:30am.
According to him, the men tore down canopies and destroyed campaign materials.
He alleged that Erube and his men vowed to kill him and his Uvwie Campaign Coordinator, Olorogun Dr. Esere Ejifoma Atumu, if he showed up for the event.

He described the incident as “an act of state terrorism” and “an attack on democracy,” alleging that the assault was carried out by known political operatives linked to Government House, Asaba.
“What happened today, carried out by his known political foot soldiers, is proof of a deliberate state-backed intimidation of opposition in Delta State,” he stated.
The former Deputy Senate President demanded immediate action from security agencies and international bodies:
1. The Inspector General of Police and the DG of DSS should arrest Mr. Emmanuel Erube and his gang and investigate who is bankrolling them.
2. The Delta State Commissioner of Police should provide 24-hour armed protection for him, Dr. Atumu, and all NDC campaign teams and supporters in Delta State.
3. INEC, the US Embassy, EU, AU, and civil society groups should send observers and human rights monitors to Delta State.
Omo-Agege urged residents of Uvwie and Delta State not to be intimidated.
“Do not be afraid. Do not back down. We will not be silenced. We will not be intimidated. The fight for a New Delta continues,” he said.
He added: “The world is watching. And history will remember who spilled human blood in the name of politics in Delta State.”
As of press time, the Delta State Government and security agencies had not issued an official response to the allegations.
