…. Constituents Commends Oborevwori Dev Strides In The Constituency

The Member Representing Isoko South 2 in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon (Chief) Ferguson Onwo, on Monday commenced tracking of ongoing state government’s projects in his Constituency, expressing confidence of their early completion.

Hon Onwo, accompanied by some aides and constituents, said the tracking of the projects was a constitutional priority, stressing that as the representative of the constituency he should at all times be abreast with progress of work on each of the projects.

At the 5745 meter long Olomoro – Igbide road project, the Lawmaker expressed happiness on the pace of the construction work, and appealed to the Contractor handling the project not only to expedite work on it, but ensure standards due to the peculiar nature of the terrain.

Affirming that work has reached an advanced stage, Hon Onwo disclosed that the sum of 5.7 billion was being expended by the state government on the road project which he said connects several oil and gas producing communities in the constituency.

The Lawmaker explained that the road has been on the struggle line for attention for decades before it was finally awarded by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori who has promised to get it done in record time.

Onwo on behalf of constituents expressed gratitude to the Governor for awarding and funding the road project, adding that the development has boosted the confidence of the people on the MORE Agenda of the state government.

He said the people, particularly those from the two agrarian communities of Olomoro and Igbide would benefit massively when the project is completed as the road is a gateway to moving their produce from the locality to other parts of the state.

Hon Onwo reminded the firm handling the project of the need to consider the high rise of flooding in the area as he progresses in the construction work, adding that the BOQ by the Ministry of Works must be strictly followed to achieve a quality road that would stand the test of time and last for decades.

He commended the contracting firm for its efforts so far, saying that constituents are happy and ready to support the present administration succeed in its vision for the state.

The Site Engineer, Engr Kingsley Edu of Leb Tech Construction Ltd, the firm handling the Olomoro-Igbide road, said a two sides concrete drains were being installed, adding that the road would be elevated above flood level.

He assured Hon Onwo and residents that the project would be completed by March next year.

The Resident Engineer, Delta State Ministry of Works supervising the projects, Engr Mark Agwalugor, said the road work is going on smoothly, receiving necessary support from the people and assured quality delivery of the project without compromised.

Community Leaders from Olomoro and Igbide communities thanked Governor Oborevwori for answering the cry of the people, adding that the struggle for the road project had suffered setbacks for years.

They passed a resounding vote of confidence on Rt Hon Oborevwori and assured him of massive support in his reelection for second tenure as Governor, Delta State.

Hon Onwo also took time to inspect ongoing rehabilitation works at the Water Schemes in Olomoro, Enwe and Aviara communities to ascertain level of completion.

According to him, the main responsibility of government is the welfare and security of the people, saying that the Water Schemes when completed would address scarcity of portable water in the localities.

The Lawmaker charged Contractors handling the water projects to expedite actions and get them completed, disclosing that in the work schedule they should handover the projects before Christmas celebration to benefit citizens coming home for the season.

The General Manager, Small Towns Water Supply Sanitation Agency, Engr Anthony Umuafe, said the project was funded by the Delta State Government and the World Bank.

Engr Umuafe noted that existing water schemes that are non functional were being rehabilitated to address scarcity of good drinking water across the state.

He stated that 100 households in each of the communities would have water supply when completed, even as he thanked the World Bank for partnership with the Delta State Government to provide water to Deltans.

Community leaders, including women, men and youth, commended the Government of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for bringing development to the people while asking for more projects.

Elated Hon Onwo while addressing the people, emphasized that as a lawmaker, part of his duty was to track government projects in his constituency by way of oversight, the function he promised to give the attention it deserves.

The Lawmaker also promised to ensure that funds approved by the State Assembly for projects in his constituency in the Appropriation Law are well utilized for the benefit of the people.
