Delta State government in it’s quest at curbing the the negative impact of climate change to the Environment on Friday provided 2000 Gas cylinders and accessories as well as other items as starter pack to vulnerable women in the state .
The Commissioner for women affairs, community and social development Mrs Flora Alatan Stated this in Asaba, Delta State during an empowerment programme to vulnerable women in the state in collaboration with the federal Ministry of Women Affairs.
Mrs Flora Alatan said climate change over time has negatively affected Nigeria and all other countries in the world.
According to her, the use of fire wood and felling of trees for domestic use should be discouraged, hence the provision of cooking gas cylinders and accessories to
vulnerable Women In Delta State was initiated by the State Government .
The Commissioner appreciated the federal Minster for Women affairs Dame Pauline Tallen and the international organization for migration for their contributions to Delta state empowerment programme for vulnerable women across the State.
Mrs Alatan advised the beneficiaries on the need to use the empowerment items to support their business.
” I trust you all will use this items Judiciously for the purpose it is meant for inorder to further reduce the damage to our environment ” she stated .
Mrs Alatan thanked the Delta state Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his continuous empowerment to the women in the state .
For her part ,the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of women affairs Mrs Oghenekevwe Agas said the state government is working towards creating an environment that will be free from pollution and noted that all categories of women in the state had benefited from the state government empowerment scheme.
A member of the civil Society organisation, Ambassador Eris Jewo -ibi who carried out a practical demonstration on how to put the items received in to use by small scale business owners , fried snacks and prepared noodles with the Gas cylinder .
Items presented are 2000 gas cylinders and accessories, 3 ice block making machines, milling machines, generators,27 industrial sewing machines and accessories, 200 bags of fish feeds amongst others.
High point of the event was the presentation of the items to the beneficries by the commissioner for women Affairs Mrs Flora Alatan.
