The Otota of Agbarha Warri community of Ogunu in Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, Chief Friday Ofuya-Erigbebre has appreciated the Nigerian Navy for saving him from injustice over a missing gun and 34 rounds ammunition.
Ofuya-Erigbebre who is the head of Erigbebre Dynasty made the appreciation in a media interaction with news men at his country home of Ogunu Community last weekend.
The respected Agbarha Warri chief who is former staff of the defunct Delta Steel Company ( DSC), Ovwian/ Aladja narrated that he was invited by a Navy friend attached to Julius Berger Company in DSC premises for an outing in Aladja Town in Udu Local Government Area on 24th December 1990 .
He narrated that he was wrongly accused by his said Navy friend ( who went to ease himself ) for stealing his gun containing 34 rounds of ammunition.
Ofuya-Erigbebre also narrated that he was immediately arrested to Naval Base ( the then NNS Umalokun ) where he was detained till the next day 25th December 1990.
He however stated further that Aladja Community spearheaded by one Elder Aggrey and retired Major General Dumudje and the Nigerian Navy swop into action in search of the missing gun based on his plea of innocence on the matter.
” God was on his throne”.He said.
The young man who stole the gun was caught and I was immediately released from detention . ” he added.
Ofuya-Erigbebre was therefore appreciative to Aladja Community and the Navy authorities for saving him from injustice over the missing gun and 34 rounds of ammunition.
He was also full of praises for the then management of the defunct Delta Steel Company( DSC ) for its interest in the matter.
Ofuya-Erigbebre had earlier explained that his message of appreciation was delayed ” because this is the time I have the opportunity to do so “.
