The Rotary Club of Ubeji,under Rotary International District 9141 on Monday inaugurated a solar-powered borehole donated to Ubeji Grammar School, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking at the inauguration, President of the club, Rotarian Emiko Akpita, said the project is aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for staff and students of the Ubeji community.
Akpita disclosed that the borehole was executed with support from a District 9141 grant, alongside contributions from club members.
He thanked members for their financial support and urged the school authority to maintain the facility to ensure it lasts.
Project Chairman, Rotarian Omatseye Odeli, explained that the club embarked on the solar-powered borehole after a needs assessment revealed the school lacked potable water and water for students’ science practicals. He noted that the borehole is automated and pumps water once the level drops.
Inaugurating the project, Rotary International District 9141 Governor, Rotarian Anthony Woghiren, represented by Assistant District Governor Zone 8, Rotarian Franklin Ote, commended the club for keying into the district’s “Water for All” PET project. He praised the club for utilizing the grant to put smiles on the faces of staff and students of Ubeji Grammar School.
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Isaac Agbateyiniro, represented by Princess Misan Eke, commended the club for its impactful initiative in providing clean water to the school.
Also speaking, the representative of the Ubeji Community Head, Mone Idowu; Ubeji Community Trust represented by Jon Patricia Edun; Chief Inspector of Education, Warri South, Dr. Samson Ugbedu, represented by Mrs. Ifeanyi Ogumgbemi; and representative of the school principal, Mrs. Stella Ejeh, all thanked the Rotary Club of Ubeji for the water project.
They further commended the club for other projects executed in the community. Also the immediate Past President of the club Rotarian Emmanuel Etsano commended Rotary international District 9141 for providing Grants to the club in the past three years.
The project reflects the Rotary Club of Ubeji’s commitment to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH, and its continued efforts to enhance the health and well-being of staff and students of Ubeji Grammar School.
