The June 2026 environmental sanitation exercise in Ogwashi-Uku, the headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area, culminated in the large-scale evacuation of refuse and waste from the bustling Afor Market, as the council intensified efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and prepare for the peak of the rainy season.
Expressing satisfaction with the level of compliance and the success of the exercise, the Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Council, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike , described the sanitation campaign as a proactive initiative aimed at enhancing public health, safety, and hygiene within the business environment.
Speaking through the Vice Chairman, Hon Patricia Ekwutozam Adolue , Chukwunwike said the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, complemented by a two-day special clean-up operation, focused on the evacuation of refuse, desilting of blocked drainage channels, and clearing of waterways to ensure the free flow of rainwater and prevent flooding of homes, markets, and business premises.

The chairman expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation, understanding, and patience throughout the exercise, particularly those affected by the temporary closure of some roads and the disruption of business activities, which were necessary to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the operation.

He urged residents to sustain the gains recorded during both the general sanitation and the special clean-up exercise by embracing good environmental hygiene as a way of life.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a safer, cleaner, and healthier Aniocha South, Chukwunwike pledged to strengthen investments and initiatives that promote public health, environmental sustainability, and the overall well-being of residents.
