Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday inaugurated three road projects spanning about 18 kilometres in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and directing the commencement of Phase II of the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road.
The projects commissioned include the 4.5-kilometre Obi-Ibabu/Ibabu Road in Onicha-Ukwuani, Phase I of the 5-kilometre Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road, and the 8.4-kilometre Etua-Ukpo/Etua-Etiti/Etua-Oliogo Road.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Utagba-Uno, Governor Oborevwori described the roads as critical infrastructure that would enhance trade, commerce, connectivity and rural development across Ndokwa Nation.
He noted that the projects reflect his administration’s determination to ensure equitable distribution of development projects across all parts of Delta State and commended the contractors for the timely completion of the roads.
The governor, however, expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the completion of the Inam-Abbi Access Road and Utagba-Uno–Eweshi Road projects, directing the Ministry of Works to ensure their completion before the end of the year.
Oborevwori also disclosed that work was progressing on several other projects in Ndokwa Nation, including the Emu-Ebendo-Iyasele-Ashaka Road, the access road to the Kwale Industrial Park, Emu-Beneku Road, Ogbedigbo-Afor Road, and the Timber Road to Waterside in Obiaruku.
Addressing electricity challenges in the area, he revealed that government had approved the rehabilitation of power infrastructure and assured residents that efforts were underway to restore electricity to affected communities.
He further directed the Commissioner for Works to begin the necessary processes for the execution of the second phase of the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road project.
Earlier, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme described the projects as the fulfilment of long-standing aspirations of the people, while Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the roads would significantly improve transportation and economic activities.
Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Council, Chief Obi Nzete, and community leaders commended the governor for the infrastructure projects, describing them as transformative for the socio-economic development of Ndokwa Nation.
