Senator Ede Dafinone and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have won the All Progressives Congress senatorial primaries for Delta Central and Delta North, while Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas maintained a lead in Delta South.
In Delta Central, Dafinone defeated former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Age by a wide margin. Announcing the results, Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee Barr. Nusa Amagbor said Dafinone polled 116,252 votes against Omo-Age’s 3,643 votes.
The direct primary under Option A4 was held across all wards in the district’s eight local government areas, with party officials describing the exercise as peaceful, credible, and transparent.
“Having satisfied all the requirements of our great party and having secured the highest number of valid votes cast in this primary, Senator Ede Dafinone is hereby declared the winner of the Delta Central Senatorial District primary election,” Amagbor said.
Dafinone commended the process and thanked party members for their support. He called on Omo-Age to join forces with other party members ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The process of the primaries was conducted in a manner that was transparent, open, free, and fair,” he said.
In Delta North, Okowa won with 113,309 votes, defeating incumbent Senator Ned Nwoko who secured 2,612 votes.
Mariam Ali polled 40 votes. Returning officer Mr. Eugene Odo declared Okowa winner after confirming he met all party requirements.
In Delta South, incumbent Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas was leading in six of the eight local government areas, according to results announced in the presence of INEC officials.
The primaries were conducted using the direct primary method across all three senatorial districts.
