The Chairman Nigerian Legion , Delta State Council, Uvwie born Chief Roberts Akpojovwo has lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for projecting the Legion in Delta State.
Akpojovwo who is a Deputy Commandant – General of Nigerian Legion , made the commendation in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent at his Effurun Uvwie Local Government residence on Thursday 21st May, 2026.
Akpojovwo who disclosed that he is touring the offices of Nigerian Legion in the twenty five local government areas in Delta State at as the time of the media chat, also appreciated Governor Oborevwori for his annual launching of the legion’ s emblem and celebration of the national army forces ‘ s remembrance day.

He explained that Nigerian Legion is compromised of retired Nigerian Army , Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force men and women .
“Some of us lost our lives in the course of protecting the unity of our dear country and defending our country from external aggression. Our wives became widows, our children became fatherless.
Aged parents of our lost colleagues are suffering because of this sacrifice.
” So those of us who lost our lives should be remembered and those of us who are alive should be celebrated like what Governor Oborevwori is doing at the state level and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing at the national level” he added .
Akpojovwo who disclosed that Nigerian Legion is 62 years old this year, however bitterly complained about the non recognition of Nigerian Legion by some local government chairmen in Delta State , noting that local government chairmen are patrons to the legion .
He also painfully noted that some local government councils do not have cenotaphs of the unknown soldiers and that they do not launch the legion’ s emblem and that neither do they celebrate the national army forces remembrance day.
Akpojovwo however praised some few local government council chairmen for their cordial relationship with the legion.
He then appealed to Governor Oborevwori to prevail on defaulting local government council chairmen to borrow a leaf from him ( Governor Oborevwori)
He wrapped up the media chat with the following words ” Though we are retired but are not tired . We are trained for disaster management and security issues. So we are still useful to the society”
