OGWASHI-UKU– The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, has called on parents and guardians to take responsibility for raising children with values, vision, and purpose, warning that parental negligence is fueling social vices across society.
In a Children’s Day statement issued by his spokesman, Oyem Jonathan, Chukwunwike extended felicitations to children worldwide, particularly those in Aniocha South, as Nigeria marked the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
He described children as “priceless treasures from God” and the “living foundation” upon which the future of every society rests. He said Children’s Day should serve as a reminder of the collective duty to nurture children with sound moral values, quality education, love, discipline, and Godly principles.
The council chairman expressed concern over what he called a growing trend where some parents ignore the moral decline of their children and, in some cases, benefit from proceeds of criminal activities.
“This dangerous culture fuels drug abuse, cybercrime, prostitution, kidnapping, and other social vices capable of destroying the future of our society,” Chukwunwike said.
He urged parents to rise with renewed commitment, noting that children are not only the pride of today but the custodians of tomorrow’s leadership, peace, and development.
On behalf of his family, the government, and people of Aniocha South, Chukwunwike said children remain the greatest asset of any nation and deserve an environment filled with love, protection, opportunity, dignity, and encouragement to excel.
He called for stronger action against child abuse, child labour, domestic violence, and exploitation, adding that the council remains committed to supporting UNICEF ideals and the Sustainable Development Goals on quality education, healthcare, gender equality, peace, justice, and child wellbeing.
“We will continue to promote policies and programs that create safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces where children can learn, grow, discover their talents, and pursue their dreams without fear,” he said.
Addressing children directly, the chairman said: “Always believe in yourselves and never stop dreaming. You are loved, valued, and celebrated. Remain focused on your education, respect your parents and teachers, and continue to nurture the greatness God has placed within you. The future of Aniocha South, Delta State, and Nigeria rests in your hands.”
He wished all children a joyful celebration and prayed for God’s guidance and protection upon them.
