Political leaders in Bomadi and Patani have described the emergence of Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana as APC candidate for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency as a defining political transition and a signal of the people’s desire for renewed leadership.
Ganagana secured the party’s ticket in the Saturday, May 16, 2026 primary, defeating long-serving lawmaker Hon. Nicholas Mutu.

Bomadi LGA Chairman Hon. Dagidi Rawlings Andaye congratulated Ganagana, saying the outcome reflected a clear push for progressive representation ahead of the 2027 elections. He commended delegates and party stakeholders for conducting what he called a peaceful, transparent, and credible process.
Delta APC State Chairman also praised the conduct of the primary, noting that Ganagana’s victory marked a new phase in the political evolution of the constituency.
Chief Economic Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Barry Pere Gbe, described the result as “the triumph of the people’s collective voice and confidence,” adding that it showed the constituency’s readiness for purposeful, people-oriented leadership. APC South-South Legal Adviser Barr. New-World Safugha said the unity and discipline displayed by party faithful strengthened the APC’s credibility across the region.
Engr. Frances Muturu said the development could inspire greater grassroots participation, especially among youths. One of the contestants, Mr. Preye Okaba, congratulated Ganagana and urged party members to unite in the interest of the constituency and the party.
Senator James Ebiowou Manager called the outcome a historic milestone that would redefine leadership and representation, while Chief Funyei Manager commended the peaceful conduct of stakeholders and supporters. Youth groups, women’s organizations, and community stakeholders have also welcomed Ganagana’s emergence.
Observers said the defeat of a lawmaker who had held the seat since 1999 signaled a demand for fresh direction, broader inclusion, and more responsive representation.
Responding, Ganagana thanked delegates, party leaders, and constituents, saying the victory belonged to the people who chose a renewed path. He pledged effective representation, unity, development, youth and women empowerment, and a leadership guided by service, inclusiveness, and accountability.
